Graceful Perseverance: A Heart of Worship

Posted October 15th, 2014 @ 03:10pm

Cup of coffeeWelcome back everyone! This week's topic is having a heart of worship. From my perspective, I believe this heart develops a deep relationship with Christ, and I'll explain what that looks like, what that feels like and how impactful it can be for each of us in our lives.

Since I'm a self-published author of five books as well as a public speaker, you'd think I would have the gift of writing words that would sunset in heart handsaccurately describe what I call the most profound, miraculous, beautiful, peaceful experience I have ever had. There are no words in the English language, or in any language that can capture this most beautiful feeling. No gain in this world can take the place of the magnificent feeling I have when I am connected to Christ.  I have a heart of worship filled with abundance. So what is this heart of worship? Where do we find it? How can we wrap any logical or practical sense around it so that all mankind can comprehend it and experience it?

The best way I can describe this experience is by taking you on a small, but important meditation experience, a moment in time. Imagine you just crawled into your bed for the evening. You are lying flat on your back, and your hands are quietly resting on your chest. Praise The LordWhen you slowly inhale and exhale a few breaths, you find yourself in a peaceful state, and becoming even more at peace with your body and beginning to forget your surroundings. He says in Psalms 46:10, Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth. Please note what I am describing is not a meditation exercise. I know because I can go to this quiet place anywhere, anytime, day or night.  For me it’s so much more powerful than meditation. It’s a practice. It’s a developed habit.

So, at this point you are now paying attention to your heart and shutting out your mind’s chatter. No thoughts or worries, no fear or pain reside in your body at this perfect moment. You are totally in tune with your soul because you feel something magical, peaceful and loving coming over you. You have now allowed the Holy Spirit to beauty girl cryawaken in your body, to be alive in the present moment. I feel like I am in a bubble, and nothing from the outside world can interfere with this very moment in time. I feel a loving presence, a spirit of peacefulness taking over my body. This feeling is so beautiful I begin to cry, warm tears running down both cheeks because there is nothing of this world, in this world, that can replicate this feeling.

At this point I have a heart of worship, and a deep-seated love for Christ and all that He wants me to experience in our relationship. At this precious moment in time, He knows he has my undivided attention. Therefore, he removes any fear, doubt and discouragement and replaces it with faith and trust in Him and only Him. I am fully and unconditionally in God’s presence so I can receive his peace, strength and direction specific to my life’s challenges. This gift from him says, “Be still and know that I am here. I will never leave you or forsake you. I am always by your side whenever you need me.” Deuteronomy 31:8, The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.

After 53 years of life, I have found a new way to solve life's problems and daily challenges. Jesus I cant live wo youFirst, I had to examine my habits and thoughts and then learn to focus my attention on the Lord and not on matters of this life. I have learned to remove myself from the chaos of this world and allow myself to go far, far away to a place where I can connect with Christ, just him, in my heart of worship. God is so much bigger than our problems, our daily challenges, our pain and suffering in this lifetime.  In my heart of worship, I truly know and believe that connecting with Christ through a personal relationship with him is the answer to all human suffering.  I have learned to solve my problems through prayer. The experience I’ve described above is relatively new for me. When I first starting feeling this way, I questioned it, doubted it, even feared it would go away, never to return.

The overwhelming feelings are so magnificent and beautiful I wanted them to last forever, to never go away. I wanted to feel this way every minute of every day of my life. I quickly learned I could have this experience anytime and anywhere in my life. I can go there at the snap of a finger, anytime I desire. Christ in sky, easterIt’s amazing, and I faithfully believe that God's word and His spirit are alive in all of us; anytime we call upon it, it is always there for us. I can be in a stressful meeting at work, in a traffic jam during rush hour, having financial hardship or in family turmoil. I can be in a broken relationship, where my heart has been shattered, and even though I am paralyzed to move on, I still have the ability to go to that peaceful place where God is patiently waiting for me so He can once again flood me with His ever-present spirit.  I believe the Lord uses every opportunity in our lives to strengthen our trust in Him and grow us into His righteousness, which is His perfect will, His perfect plan for our lives. His direction asks us to take our steps in faith towards Him every day.

So many of our daily challenges are beyond our ability to change, let alone solve on our own. Scripture Passage Romans 8But nothing is impossible for Him.  Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you. (Jeremiah 32:17).

With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.  (Matthew 19:26).

If we learn to pray instead of complain, then His promise is to shrink our problems to nothing because we have turned our focus to Him and no longer on our problems. Praying at sunsetI believe prayer in every capacity has a central role in the outcome of our daily mindsets, challenges and decisions. Each of us has the ability to demonstrate a heart of worship that is always on a quest, pursuing Him and His will for our lives and enables us to turn our backs on the self-absorbed quest for things of this world.

God Bless until next week,

Debra M. Pauli
