Graceful Perseverance: 911 Prayers

Posted September 11th, 2014 @ 10:09pm

Welcome back to my blog everyone!

Today marked the 13th anniversary of the 9/11 World Trade Center attacks, when thousands lost their lives. The impact it had on this nation was a tragedy that permanently shaped and changed millions of lives around the world. Not one of us will ever be the same as a result. I am asking all of us to remember and honor those who lost their lives in the reprehensible attacks that took place that day.

Every anniversary of this tragic day, I feel it deep in my inner being. My heart aches for the surviving families and friends who, after 13 years, are still healing from this tremendous loss that most of us cannot comprehend. Each year on this day I make a point of setting aside prayer time for the victims and survivors and all who have been directly or indirectly impacted by the senseless terrorist attacks that took place that day.

A 911 prayer by T D Jakes - In spite of such pain we honor you as the God and guide who has enabled us to endure what we thought was impossible. Thank you for your sovereign grace that guides us beyond one moment of terror to a collective destiny beyond that moment.

A 911 prayer by Thomas L. McDonald - Dear Lord, as we remember the evils of September 11th, let us turn our hearts and minds towards the good found only in You; Be close to those who mourn: the parents who lost children, the children who never knew a parent, and all who lost a loved one; Embrace this grieving nation, and let time never lessen the impact of this day; may we never forget; Protect those who go in harm’s way to save others, and those who suffer and die to safeguard our nation; Give wisdom to our leaders, that they may make choices that prevent another day such as this; Convert the hearts of those who seek our destruction, and banish from the world the darkness that allows such hate to fester and grow; Let Your love rain down upon us, and let Your peace flourish on the Earth; All these things we ask in the name of Jesus Christ, Our Lord.

A 911 prayer for Unity by Reverend Wintley Phipps - We pray today that from the ashes will rise a new spirit of beauty and unity in America. Already, all across this nation our hearts have been knit together into a new tapestry of one America. Because of this tragedy, we have been bound together by a silver chord of hope and brotherhood and sisterhood. What was meant to drive us apart has really drawn us together. May we always remember. And so today we ask, God, that you would wipe the tears of all in need of comfort.

That you would touch the discouraged and remind them that love will always conquer hate. We thank you, God, for making us such a resilient people. We know that we are. And we pray now for the strength to rise again, to build again, and to live free from fear.

We pray that you will give us the courage to face evil and the faith to believe that good will never be defeated. Hold us close to your heart. And through our tears, and through our sorrow, may we all see a new vision of a new tomorrow.

God Bless this Nation,

Debra M. Pauli
